CASE 03 / STORYTELLING + PEDAGOGY

Your Story, Your Superpower

Your Story, Your Superpower

A Hope Chicago learning experience

Storytelling as a learning tool.

CONTEXT + PURPOSE

Helping participants develop and communicate personal stories with PAR and values.

A 17-slide learning experience was designed to support Chicago Hope Scholars (College Students) in communicating a personal story using the PAR framework and personal values.

The experience included norms, authenticity, storytelling, PAR, modeling, practice, feedback, and reflection.

WHAT I DESIGNED

Storytelling as a practice structure.

NORMS → AUTHENTICITY → PAR → MODELING → PRACTICE → FEEDBACK → REFLECTION

Holding the humanity inside the methodology.

WHAT I UNDERSTAND NOW

Acting has taught me that listening is active. I attend to what is said, what may be underneath it, and how what I receive should influence what happens next. That awareness enters facilitation through listening, presence, pacing, embodiment, emotional availability, responsiveness, and story.

WHAT I WOULD PRESERVE

PAR, modeling, pair practice, feedback, and reflection created a structure that helped Fellows gather evidence from their own experiences and practice naming strengths themselves rather than receiving a conclusion from me.

WHAT I WOULD CHANGE

Vulnerability should be invited through choice rather than treated as evidence of successful participation. When heavier experiences surfaced, my responsibility was not simply to extract Problem, Action, and Result. I needed to attend to the person telling the story.

WHAT I’M PRACTICING NEXT

The framework serves the learner. The learner does not exist to complete the framework. My artistry gave me tools for holding the humanity inside the methodology. PAR provides structure. Facilitation provides agency.
